HENNA INK AFTERCARE
1. While the Paste is On
- Keep it on: Leave the henna paste on your skin for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours. Sleeping with it overnight will yield the darkest stain.
.
- Seal it: Once the paste is dry, a lemon-sugar mixture can be dabbed or sprayed lightly over the design to stop it from crumbling.
.
- Wrap it (if sleeping): Cover the drying paste with breathable medical tape (like Hypa fix) or cotton socks to prevent it from smearing on your bedding or clothes.
.
- Stay warm: Heat activates the lawsone dye in henna. Keeping your body warm will push the dye deeper into the skin for a darker hue
.
2. Removing the Paste
- Scrape don't scrub: Gently scrape the dry paste off using your fingers or the dull side of a butter knife.
.
- Use oil, not water: Wipe away any leftover flakes with a natural oil like olive, coconut, or argan oil. Water interrupts the oxidation process and will make the stain look faded.
.
3. The First 24 Hours
- Avoid water: Keep the stained area completely dry for at least 24 hours.
.
Protect during chores: If you must shower or do the dishes, apply a thick layer of natural oil or balm over the tattoo to act as a water-resistant barrier, or wear rubber gloves.
.
Be patient: Your stain will appear bright pumpkin-orange at first. It will oxidize and magically darken into a rich, deep reddish-brown over the next 24 to 48 hours.
.
4. Long-Term Care (7-14 Days)
Moisturize frequently: Keep your skin nourished with natural oils, balms, or petroleum jelly.
Avoid exfoliants: Henna only sits on the top layers of your skin. Avoid harsh soaps, antibacterial gels, chlorine, and scrubbing the area so the stain doesn't fade prematurely
